Hi.

Welcome to the Curiosity Carnival. An exploration into the fun and messy behind-the-scenes of being a STEM teacher in San Francisco.

iSchool Report: Pulse - repost 2-6-12

Repost from February 6, 2012

Pulse was a game changer for me. I changed the way I gathered information, from news and current events, to gossip from the fashion and tech blogs. Pulse is a way of visually displaying articles from select sources and aggregates from “Top” articles in categories (news, music, food, fashion, tech, etc.). Best of all, you can add your own favorite blogs to follow by entering their rss feed.

The obsessive compulsive person in me loves the way this app organizes information, side scrolling rows according to source. Articles are represented by a photo and a few of the first words of the text. When selected, these photos open up to a simplified version of the article (pulse formatted text and photos), but with a click of a button you can toggle to the formatting of the original article.

Finally, you are able to “favorite” and save articles for re-reading at a different date. They can also be twittered, sent to facebook, and emailed. It used to be linked to my Evernote account, but unfortunately that feature was disables by either Pulse or Evernote. I still email the notes directly to Evernote.

p.s. I view my pulse every morning during breakfast, and later in the evening, after work.
