Welcome to the Curiosity Carnival. An exploration into the fun and messy behind-the-scenes of being a STEM teacher in San Francisco.
Board of Trustees Education Committee
Meeting in a flexible room with tiered benches, mobile seats, projection board, wall to wall white boards, and a garage door.
d.School Motto
Nothing is a mistake. There is not win and no fail. There's only MAKE.
The Design Thinking Process
It's not linear. It ebbs and flows, there is progress and setback, but with trail and error a goal is reached. Even if it is not the initially planned goal.
Stacks of whiteboards
There can never be too many post-it notes and white boards when you are brainstorming and mapping out ideas. These boards are light and portable. They include notches to by hung both vertically and horizontally.
Always in easy access.
More white boards.
Another look at the mobile white board systems. There are tracks along the ceiling to anchor the poles in which to hang stacks of white boards.
Prototyping tools and rules
1. Be safe.
2. Do NOT take tools from this room.
3. Talk to your Teaching Team or d.school staff for help and additional resources.
Everything organized with a graphically labelled home.
Prototyping supplies
Towers of supplies for prototyping. A place for everything, and everything in its place.
Prototype testing room
Fit with costumes to better test prototypes.
Project spaces
Students with missions to help communities, have carved out more permanent work spaces here.
Student Project Flowchart
Photos for empathic problem solving.
Cool display board.
Using string and paper clips...
Bookshelves
All the shelves were this shape. I like them, but I like the uniformity of a standard grid...
d.school philosophy.
Reset before you go.
These signs were in every multi-use space. There were comfortable chairs for deep though, uncomfortable chairs to encourage movement, tables of various heights, projectors, and wall space for note taking. Everything gets reset and ready to use for the next group.
