Hi.

Welcome to the Curiosity Carnival. An exploration into the fun and messy behind-the-scenes of being a STEM teacher in San Francisco.

Science Bootcamp

Science Bootcamp: Stream Tables. How did flow rate affect the number of streams created? How did the soil/gravel size affect erosion? How did the rate of water flow change when soil saturation changed? The 7th graders hold a science symposium to share their findings. They investigated rates of water flow through various sized soil/gravel grains, saturation of soil/gravel, slope of soil/gravel, and initial rate of water flow. Data was carefully collected and then presented as graphs on their poster displays.

Last year was there were experimental trials of the symposium format for students to share their findings after each scientific investigation. The heft of the science lab tables and the compact space of the science lab led to very cramped configurations. With the new science lab and lighter and more mobile furniture, symposium set-up happened within seconds, rather than minutes. We are confident that all grades and science classes will be utilizing the science talk and science symposium formats more this year.
