Compost and worm bins: Modeling 3rd grade science by 7th graders. When you learn about dirt and worms in the 3rd grade, looking at soil never stops. This year, the 3rd graders are kicking off their worm-bin unit with science journal introductions with help from 7th graders. What to look for when you are making observations? How to handle scientific specimens? What do you write in your journals to demonstrate understanding to your teachers? Meanwhile, the 7th graders will continue their earth unit by creating their own composting chambers.
